Clipper Gemini

Clipper Gemini

The 120 meter long, 9095 dwt boxship Clipper Gemini allided with the lock wall on the Kiel Canal at Kiel-Holtenau, Germany. The Clipper Gemini was proceeding toward the southern berth in the lock when it struck the wall.  The vessel suffered a dent along its forepeak while the fendering along the lock was slightly damaged.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The water police conducted an investigation and allowed the Clipper Gemini to continue on with its voyage to Hamburg.

Sagasbank

Sagasbank

The 89 meter long, 4500 dwt freighter Sagasbank allided with a pier on the Weser River at Brake, Germany.  The Sagasbank was attempting to berth when the master of the vessel made a navigational error and struck the pier.  The vessel’s hull suffered a small hole near a tank containing lubricating oil.   The pier also suffered damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released into the water.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.   The Sagasbank was detained in Brake until it can make the necessary repairs.

Potomac River Pollution

Potomac River Pollution

A barge being used as part of a floating platform, broke free on the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. suffered some structural failure .   Reports state the barge’s 500 gallon fuel tank began to leak diesel fuel releasing some 50 gallons of fuel into the water.   The Coast Guard and local authorities responded and placed a boom around the barge to contain the spill.    A pollution response team has been dispatched to the scene.
