Collision in Manila Bay

The 175 meter long, 22183 dwt container ship Prosper collided with the barge Jupiter 333 in Manila Bay near Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines.  The Prosper’s bow struck the barge causing it to capsize.  The crew on board the Jupiter 333 were forced into the water, but were quickly rescued.  No reports of injuires.  The Prosper’s bow suffered some damage above the waterline from the collision.  The Jupiter 333 was last reported as sunk or partially submerged in 40 meters of water.  The Jupiter 333 was carrying 1050 tons of soybeans under the tow of the tug Stargate to Manila from Subic.  The Philippine Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

Ebba Brahe

The 41 meter long ferry Ebba Brahe allided with the dock at Gränna, Sweden on Lake Vättern.   The Ebba Brahe had departed from Visingsö with 199 passengers and 22 vehicles and was attempting to berth when it struck the stone pier.   Several passengers were thrown overboard along with several vehicles pushed into each other.   Five injured passengers were taken to the local hospital.  The Ebba Brahe’s bow suffered dents in the bow and  twelve vehicles sustained damage.  Reports state the ferry was approaching the dock at a higher speed than normal due to a fire truck being transported to a fire when a technical fault prevented the ferry from slowing down.   The Ebba Brahe has been taken out of service while authorities conduct an investigation.
