Yukka

Yukka

The 107 meter long, 3353 dwt freighter Yukka caught fire in the Black Sea near Cide, Turkey.  The Yukka was headed to Rostov-on-Don, Russia from Instanbul with a cargo of feldspar when a fire started from an electrical short  in the crew’s cabin.  The flames quickly engulfed the cabins as the crew struggled to get the fire under control.   The Yukka contacted the Turkish Coast Guard who dispatched a rescue boat to the scene.  The rescue boat evacuated the 13 persons on board the Yukka and taken to Inebolu.  Two officers were slightly injured in the fire and were taken to hospital.   The Coast Guard has alerted other vessels that the Yukka remains adrift.  The fate of the Yukka is unknown as conflicting reports state that the fire was brought under control while others state the vessel remains on fire.
