Han Splendour

Han Splendour

The 98 meter long, 6869 dwt freighter Han Splendour sank near Batan Island, Philippines.  The vessel had suffered uncontrolled water ingress flooding the hull.   The 17 crew on board abandoned ship and entered the vessel’s lifeboat.   The vessel’s EPIRB distress signal was received by a South Korean patrol plane.  The plane proceeded to the scene where it spotted the vessel.   Other nearby vessels to assist in the rescue effort while vessels from the Philippine Coast Guard and a South Korean patrol boat headed to the scene.   Reports state the 17 men were later rescued and were being taken to Seogwipo Hang.   No reports of injuries.

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Thorsten went aground on the Bijlandsch Canal near Tolkamer, Netherlands.  The Thorsten loaded with a cargo of coal ran over a navigation beacon before striking a crib.  The vessel suffered hull damage with water ingress.   The Thorsten was able to proceed to Tolkamer where it docked.   The local fire brigade was contacted and were able to pump out the water.  A temporary patch sealed the leak.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
