Starford

The 158 meter long, 23360 dwt bulk freighter Starford went aground in Suva Bay near Suva, Fiji.   The vessel had arrived from Shanghai and was at anchor when a cyclone passed through the area.   The high winds and waves caused the Starford’s anchors to drag until it ran onto a reef.   No reports of injuries.   The Starford sustained only minor damage.

The 146 meter long, 12985 dwt container ship Capitaine Tasman went aground near the entrance to the harbour at Suva, Fiji.   The Capitaine Tasman had been at anchor as a cyclone passed over the island.   The container ship’s anchors began to drag until the vessel had run aground.   No reports of injuries.   Reports state the Capitaine Tasman continued to be pounded by the  rough seas causing some water ingress.   No further details reported.

The 155 meter long, 20500 dwt freighter BBC Bunde became disabled in Kiel Canal near Brunsbüttel, Germany.   The BBC Bunde had suffered engine failure and the crew were unable to restart the engines.   Two tugs were dispatched and took the freighter under tow back to Brunsbüttel.   The vessel remained in port for several hours until repairs were completed.   The BBC Bunde then continued its journey through the canal the following day en route to its final destination at Ronnskar.   No reports of injuries, damage, or pollution released.
