The 65 foot long fishing vessel Five J’s went aground off Brenton Point near Newport, Rhode Island.  The vessel had lost power and had gone adrift.  The crew attempted to drop anchor, but the anchor was unable to hold.  No reports of injuries.   The Five J’s had some quantity of diesel fuel on board at the time of the grounding.  Authorities have teams assessing the situation and condition of the vessel as salvage operations begins. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

FELIX

The 23 meter long passenger ferry Felix was struck by a barge on the Rhine near St. Goarshausen, Germany.   The barge was proceeding downstream when it slammed into the Felix while moored at its berth.   Damage was minor and no one was injured.  The master of the barge had made a navigational error resulting in the allision.  The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Samarga

The 117 meter long, 7130 dwt container ship Samarga became disabled in the Sea of Japan off the Korean Peninsula.  The Samarga had suffered engine failure while en route to Vladivostok from Busan with a cargo of vehicles.   The Samarga went adrift, but was in no danger as conditions were moderate.   The crew requested assistance with a salvage tug departed from Vladivostok and would be on scene the next day.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
