The crew of the 315 dwt offshore crew vessel Esnaad 715 abandoned ship in the Bay of Biscay off La Coruna, Spain.  The crew alerted the Spanish MRCC that the vessel was in danger of sinking after encountering 10 meter waves.  A helicopter was dispatched to the scene and was able to hoist the 5 crewmen to safety.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the vessel was still afloat.

Naval vessel aground off Vishakhapatnam

airavatOn January 30, the 124 meter long Indian Navy amphibious vessel Airavat ran aground off the coast of Vishakhapatnam.  The Airavat,  a Magar-class Landing Ship Tanker (LST), was returning back to port to the naval dockyard when it touched bottom.  The LST had suffered damage to its propeller requiring it to go into drydock, but there were no injuries reported.  The commanding officer was relieved of duty afterwards.  The Indian Navy stated it has launched a probe into the incident.

UTA

The 92 meter long freighter Uta went aground in Bozcaada Channel off Tenedos, Turkey.  The Uta was en route to Akcansa from Siteia with a cargo of gypsum.   Reports state a tugboat was requested to aid in refloating.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
