The fishing boat Green Eyes ran aground on Lake Superiors off Barkers Island near Superior, Wisconsin. The Green Eyes’s engine had overheated resulting in water ingress into the vessel’s exhaust system.  The vessel was driven ashore to avoid it from sinking.   No one on board was injured.   Other vessels came to the scene to provide assistance.  The Coast Guard arrived on scene  to contain a small amount of fuel pollution released.

The 285 meter long passenger cruise ship Westerdam caught fire off Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  The Westerdam with 2086 passengers was en route to Alaska when a fire broke out in a boiler room.  The fire was extinguished by the crew, but it had flared up a second time and extinguished again.  The Westerdam proceeded to Seattle escorted by a tug where it could be inspected.  Reports state the vessel would be inspected and depart again on its voyage to Alaska.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
