The 36 meter fishing vessel Scan Viking was disabled 30 miles off the coast of Ibiza, Spain. While en route to Alicante from Palma, the live fish carrier suffered a power blackout when its main engine failed. Adrift in bad weather, the Scan Viking contacted authorities in Palma for assistance.
Authorities dispatched the rescue boat Guardamar Caliope which arrived on scene a few hours later. The rescue boat was able to pass a towline over to the Scan Viking and headed towards Ibiza. After eight hours of a difficult tow in adverse weather, the Guardamar Caliope brought the Scan Viking back into port of Ibiza. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
