On May 16, the 79 meter long, 2586 dwt tanker Oraness caught fire on the Kiel Canal near Suchsdorf, Germany. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room while it was en route to Moerdijk from Aarhus. The crew requested assistance with the local fire brigade responding. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the blaze a few hours later. No reports of injuries. Tugs took the Oraness under tow back to Kiel for repairs and to be inspected. No reports of pollution released.
