The 29 meter long, 130 dwt fishing vessel Frosti caught fire off Straumnes, Iceland. The fire started in the trawler’s engine room and quickly contained by the crew. However, dense smoke had spread through out the Frosti except the bridge. The vessel sent out a distress call with two Iceland Coast Guard helicopters and patrol boats to the scene. One helicopter airlifted one crew person off the Frosti who required treatment for smoke inhalation. The other helicopter arrived and lowered five firefighters to the Frosti. The patrol boat Tyr arrived and took the Frosit under tow back to Hafnarfjordur. No reports of pollution released.
