MSC Fabienne

On June 19, the 294 meter long container ship MSC Fabienne ran aground on the St. Lawrence River just downriver from Montreal, Canada. The MSC Fabienne had departed from Montreal en route to Gioia Tauro when it suffered engine failure. Without power, the vessel drifted until ran aground.  River traffic was obstructed a short time until tugs were able to free the vessel later that night. The tugs towed the MSC Fabienne where it could be moored while No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On June 15, the 89 meter long, 3500 dwt tanker Cap Pinede allided with the breakwater at Marseille, France. The bunker tanker was entering the port when it suffered a steering failure.  Unable to maneuver, the crew of the Cap Pinede tried to slow the vessel down by reversing engines to full astern.  Their efforts could not stop the tanker from striking the breakwater. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Damage to the Cap Pinede was not released.

Kydonia

The 229 meter long, 92828 dwt bulk carrier Kydonia ran around on the Paraná River near San Nicolas, Argentina. The Kydonia departed from San Lorenzo with a partial cargo of soy beans when it ran aground. The bulk carrier was unable to free itself and requested assistance. Two tugs were dispatched and pulled free a few hours later. The Kydonia was towed upstream where it will be inspected. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the Paraná River water level remains low making it difficult for vessels to navigate.
