Calimero Sampa
On the early morning of January 28, the 20 meter long fishing vessel Calimero Sampa (MMSI: 247071380) ran aground 250 meters off the beach just west of Cesenatico, Italy. The fishing vessel struck an offshore protective reef and capsized over onto its starboard hull. The crew sent out a distress call with the Coast Guard of Rimini and Censenatico responding. The Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat to rescue the four crew on the Calimero Sampa who had taken refuge on the deckhouse of the vessel. Due to the shallow waters, the Coast Guard used an inflatable boat to safely transfer all the crew to shore. No reports of injuries.
Reports stated there was some pollution as debris was spotted floating around the fishing vessel. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
