Collision on the Waal

On the morning of January 21, the self-propelled tanker-barge Naduah (MMSI: 244670612) collided with the 135 meter long self-propelled container-barge Monika Deymann (MMSI: 211732570) on the Waal River near Opijnen, Netherlands. The Naduah was headed to Antwerp from Duisburg while the Monika Deymann was in ballast when the vessels struck head-on.
Reports state the Naduah suffered significant damage to its bow above the waterline while the Monika Deymann suffered damage above the waterline to its starboard hull near the bow. The local fire brigade arrived on site and offered assistance to the vessels. Both vessels were later taken under tow to Haaften. Authorities state there no injuries or pollution released. The incident is under investigation.
