The freighter Banglar Mukh caught fire while docked in the port of Chittagong, Bangladesh.   The fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room when an economizer became overheated.   The local fire brigade was requested and was able to get the fire under control.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Reports state the engine room only suffered minimal damage.  The Banglar Mukh had been anchored at the port jetty to unload its cargo of salt.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 194 meter long, 5339 dwt ro-ro ferry Kriti II caught fire near Patras, Greece.  The fire started in the car deck with smoke billowing out from the decks.    The crew fought the fire and were able to contain the blaze.   When the vessel reached Patras, the 113 passengers were evacuated with the assistance of Coast Guard, fishing vessels and other local vessels.  The local fire brigade fought through the dense smoke, but was able to extinguish the blaze a short time later.   No reports of injuries.  Some 40 of the 92 vehicles were damaged in the fire.   Initial reports state the fire started in a refrigerator truck which had suffered an electrical short.

The 102 meter long, 2790 dwt fish factory Master caught fire in the Bering Sea near Tilichiki, Kamchatka, Russia.  The fire started while fish was being transferred to a reefer.   Seventy-six of the 84 crew were evacuated to the reefer while the remaining crew fought the blaze.   A few hours later the crew were able to extinguish the fire.  The Master suffered extensive damage to the engine room and bridge.   The vessel will be taken under tow to Nevelsk, Sakhalin Island.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.
