The 94 meter long general cargo vessel Fedor Shein ran aground on the Volga-Baltic waterway near Cherepovets, Russia. The vessel was hauling scrap metal when it grounded near the confluence of the Volga and Yagorba rivers. No reports of injuries and no leaks were found. The tug Captain Vorontsov was dispatched to refloat the Fedor Shein. Authorities are investigating the incident.
Capsized Fishing Boat
A 59 ton fishing boat capsized off Geoje Island, South Korea. The fishing boat was passing between a tugboat and a barge when the tow cable caused the fishing boat to flip over. Three of the 11 crew members on board were rescued. A search and rescue effort later found five bodies with another three still missing. Later reports state one of the crew rescued perished from injuries sustained in the capsizing. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
Andeswara Sunk
On August 8, 2014, the m/v Andeswara sank off South Sumatra, Indonesia. The vessel was last reported at 03 13 S, 106 13E with 37 people on board. The vessel was en route to Bangka Toboali from Mud River when it encountered heavy seas with waves reaching 3 meters in height. The Andeswara quickly flooded and sank. Authorities and local fishermen rushed to the scene and found some 15 survivors. The search continued with an additional 9 bodies were recovered.
