The 330 foot tanker (barge) Waldhof capsized and sank on the Rhine river close to the Lorelei Rock between Koblenz and St. Goarshausen, Germany. The barge was carrying 2,400 tons of sulfuric acid from Ludwigshafen, Germany to Antwerp, Belgium. Two of the 4 crewmen onboard were pulled from the river and are in good shape. There is no indication why the vessel capsized. Reports state there was some concern about acid leaking from the tanker, but officals stated the vessel’s double-hull has remained intact and there were no leaks.
