Zangan-3 Aground

The 114 meter long, 3353 dwt freighter Zangan-3 went aground on the Kama River at the 2114 kilometer mark.  The vessel was unable to refloat itself and tugs have been requested for assistance.  No reports of damage or pollution being released.  The Zangan-3 was heading for Astrakhan from Solikamsk with a cargo of 4250 metric tons of lumber.

The 4858 dwt boxship Zeya was reported disabled off the Moryak-Rybolob harbour, Russia (43 15.0N 134 45.0E) due to a fuel pipe rupture.   The vessel was able to repair the pipe and proceeded on schedule the same day.

Two Groundings at Barranquilla Columbia

Reports state 2 freighters have gone aground in 1 week at the entrance to the port of Barranquilla, Columbia.   The 40,709 dwt freighter Chios Wind went aground with 25,000 metric tons of grain aboard.  The 53,632 dwt freighter Magnum Power was reporated aground earilier.   The grounded vessels has blocked all commerical traffic to and out of the port.   One report states the cause of the groundings is due to the build up of a sand bank at the entrance to the channel.   Harbour officials have stated the cause was due to the current, the underpowered vessels and lack of seamanship of the masters of each vessel.   A tug has been requested to help free both vessels.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
