Mississippi River Bridge Struck

A barge struck the Caruthersville Bridge that connects Caruthersville, Missouri with Dyer County, Tennesse on Interstate 155. The bridge was shutdown while being inspected for damage, but was later reopened later the same day.   The cause of the allision was not reported, but the Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the accident.

Sveanord Avoids Sinking

Sveanord Avoids Sinking

The 60 meter long gravel vessel Sveanord became disabled when a leak developed in the hull while off  Dyrøya, Norway.   The vessel quickly took on water into the engine room shutting down the main engine.   The crew requested assistance and 2 Navy vessels quickly responded.   One Navy vessel towed the Sveanord closer to land.   Additional rescue boats arrived on scene and were able to get the water ingress under control.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

The passenger vessel Mary The Queen went aground in Manila Bay with over 1,000 passengers on board.   The vessel was bound for Romblon and Masbate when it encountered heavy seas during the night.   The master decided the weather was too severe and headed back to port.   While maneuvering, the Mary The Queen grounded in shallow water a few kilometers from its pier.   No reports of injuries or damage.
