Collision off Thyborøn

The 48170 dwt freighter Golden Trader collided with the fishing trawler Vidar off the coast of Thyborøn, Denmark.  The Vidar punctured the side of the hull of the Golden Trader allowing some oil to spill into the sea.   The Vidar suffered only minor damage.   One crewman of the six on board the Vidar was injured in the collision.   All of the 22 crew on the Golden Trader were uninjured.   Several lifeboats and two cutters proceeded to the scene.   The Vidar was escorted back to Thyborøn while the Golden Trader was being monitored.   The cause of the collision has not been reported, but initial reports states the weather was clear.

Aground on the Volgo-Balt

The 4001 dwt motor tanker Leonid Shmonin went aground on the Volgo-Balt Canal near the 875.4 kilometer mark.  The Leonid Shmonin had 3277 metric tons of gasoline on board at the time of the incident.  The tanker was refloated the next day after partial unloading of its cargo.   No reports of injury, damage or pollution being released.

Northern Song Aground

The 84 foot passenger vessel (yacht) Northern Song went aground near Baranof Island in the Lower Chatham Strait, Alaska.  The Northern Song’s anchor had dragged while at low tide allowing the vessel to go aground.  The vessel contacted the Coast Guard that it had seven passengers and four crew on board.   The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene while the crew of the Northern Song transferred the passengers to shore using the vessel’s inflatable liferaft.    The helicopter picked up the passengers and safely took them to Sitka, Alaska.   The Northern Song refloated the same day.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
