MSC Luciana Aground

The 120,000 gt, 360 meter long boxship MSC Luciana went aground on a sandbank in the Westerschelde after leaving Antwerp, Belgium.   Initial attempts to free the boxship failed, but tugs were able to release the vessel with the rising tide.  The MSC Luciana proceeded to Zeebrugge for inspection.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   The boxship had 7,000 containers on board at the time of the grounding.

Kodiak Collision

Kodiak Collision

The 98 foot long fishing vessel Flying Ocean collided with the 86 foot long fishing vessel Muskrat at Kodiak, Alaska.   Reports state the Flying Ocean struck the Muskrat along the waterfront causing some damage to the Muskrat. There were winds of 19 knots gusting up to 28 knots at the time.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Bridget Carmel

The 24 meter long trawler Bridget Carmel collided with the 239 meter long tanker Ocean Lady near Wicklow harbor, Ireland.  The trawler sustained some damage to its fishing gear, but no damage below the waterline.   The RNLI lifeboats from Holyhead and Wicklow assisted the trawler as it proceeded back to Wicklow under its own power.  The three crew on the Bridget Carmel were uninjured, but shaken by the incident.   The Ocean Lady sustained no damaged and proceeded on its voyage.   No pollution was released.
