The 18 meter long fishing vessel Sir Eldon became disabled off Cape Bonavista, Newfoundland. The crew contacted the Canadian Coast Guard who dispatched the vessel Sir Wilfred Grenfell to the scene. The Grenfell took the fishing vessel under tow to St. John’s. Reports state all three crewmen on the Sir Eldon were in good condition. No reports of injuries.
The 64 meter long, 582 dwt ferry Aukra allided with the quay at Hundeidvika, Norway. Both the quay and ferry suffered significant damage. The master of the ferry was injured and was taken to hospital. None of the six passengers on board were injured, but two of the five vehicles on board were damaged. The Aukra proceeded to Festoya to unload passengers and vehicles. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
The 42 meter long, 500 dwt motor vessel Havtrans suffered a fire in the engine room while off Engelvaer, Norway. The JRCC of Northern Norway was contacted and they dispatched a helicopter along with two lifeboats, Norske Veritas and Kaptein Skaugen, from Bodo to the scene. Firefighters boarded the Havtrans and were able to extinguish the fire shortly afterwards. None of the four crew on board the Havtrans were injured. The Havtrans was taken under tow by the lifeboat Veritas and proceeded to Svolvaer. The Havtrans is called a well-boat vessel. A well boat is designed to transport live fish.
