Miss Ellisa

Miss Ellisa

The 53 meter long, 713 dwt freighter Miss Ellisa capsized and sank on the Demerara River, Guyana.   The freighter had left Georgetown headed to Trinidad and Tobago with a cargo of coconuts, poles, and rice when it suffered a cargo shift.  The crew turned the around and was heading back to port when it rolled over and sank in the river.   Six of the seven crew on board were pulled from the water.   The vessel’s cook remained missing.  A search for the man continued the next day when two divers were summoned to the scene.  The divers searched after a few hours, before the search was called off.  No further details reported.
