Reports state a workboat struck the lift-bridge over the Gouwe River near Waddinxveen, Netherlands. The workboat was passing under the bridge when part of the vessel was caught underneath. The allision cause metal to sheer away injuring one person on board the workboat. The bridge sustained damage and was closed to traffic. Reports state a crane will be needed to repair the bridge.
The 82 foot long fishing vessel Northern Pride caught fire off Kodiak Island, Alaska. The vessel was proceeding to Seward when it caught fire off Marmot Island. The three crew attempted to extinguish the blaze, but the smoke was too intense. Unable to contain the fire , the men sent out a distress call and abandoned ship. The three crew donned immersions suits and got into a life raft. A good Samaritan vessel had relayed the distress call to the Coast Guard who dispatched a helicopter to the scene. The helicopter arrived a short time later and hoisted the men to safety. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
The 109 meter long ro-ropassenger ferry Selbjørnsfjord ran aground near Våge, Norway. The Selbjørnsfjord was en route to Minke from Halhjem with 31 passengers and 6 crew when it suffered engine failure. The ferry drifted and touched bottom outside Våge. The vessel requested assistance with a lifeboat and the ferry Rygercruise responding. Both vessels towed the Selbjørnsfjord into port. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Divers were requested to inspect the hull for damage.
