The 115 meter long, 8150 dwt container ship Salam Mesra caught fire while anchored off Marina Barrage, Singapore. The fire started in the vessel’s superstructure in one of the crew’s cabins. Authorities were alerted and dispatched four firefighting vessels to the scene. Using water jets to reach the upper deck cabins, the vessels were able to contain the fire five hours later. No reports of injuries. Details to the extent of damage to the Salam Mesra was not reported.
The 22 meter long catamaran passenger ferry Issehoved allided with a quay at Aarhus, Denmark. The Issehoved was approaching the quay when it struck at the bow. None of the 50 passengers were injured, but the vessel’s bow sustained damage. The Issehoved was towed to a dock and passengers were transferred to another ferry. Reports state the vessel resumed it schedule the next day.
On July 10, the 112 meter long self-propelled barge Christiane Deymann I and the barge Christiane Deymann II ran aground on the Rhine near Diehl, Germany. The vessels were en route to Mülheim from Kehl with a cargo of steel coils. Near Diehl, the vessels moved out the fairway to allow another vessel to pass and went aground in shallow water. The water police was alerted and alerted nearby ship traffic to reduce speed. Initial attempts to refloat the Christiane Deymann I and II were unsuccessful. The following day another barge arrived on scene and lightered the Christiane Deymann II which was refloated. On July 12, the Christiane Deymann I was refloated after 600 tons of steel coils were lightered. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
