Orsula Aground

The 200 meter long, 34168 dwt freighter Orsula went aground on the St. Lawrence River near Becancour, Quebec, Canada.  The Orsula had become disabled after a rudder failure causing the bulk carrier to go aground.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Orsula was proceeding only in ballast at the time of the incident.  Reports states the Orsula should be refloated after a salvage has been submitted by the owners.

Sparta Off Anarctica

Sparta Off Anarctica

The 55 meter long, 371 dwt fishing vessel Sparta suffered water ingress after the vessel’s hull was holed while off Anarctica.  The crew was able to keep the water ingress in check with pumps.   No reports of injuries to the 32 crew on board.   Two other vessels are proceeding to the scene, but ice and conditions have made progress slow.  An icebreaker has been dispatched to the scene, but may take six or more days to reach the Sparta.   Reports state the crew have requested an additional pump to assist in repairs.

Hendrik Jan

Hendrik Jan

The fishing vessel Hendrik Jan became disabled near the harbour at Scheveningen, Netherlands.   The Hendrik Jan had lost steering and the crew requested assistance from the KNRM.  The KNRM lifeboat was dispatched and took the Hendrik Jan under tow back to Scheveningen.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
