Fairwind

The 148 meter long, 12810 dwt container ship Fairwind became disabled after an engine failure off Sicily.  The Fairwind was able reach the port at Augusta, Sicily.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.  The Fairwind was headed to Samsun from Casablanca before the breakdown.

Rigi Allision

Rigi Allision

The 47 meter long passenger vessel FGS Rigi allided with a piear at Arth, Switzerland on Lake Zug.  The vessel with 91 passengers crashed into a floating pier causing damage to the Rigi’s bow.   Five people were slightly injured and were to taken to hospital.   The remaining passengers were safely taken ashore.  Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.   The Rigi was taken out of service for a week while it was being repaired.   No reports of pollution being released.

Ever Transport III

Ever Transport III

The cargo / passenger vessel Ever Transport III went aground and sank off Dumaguete City, Philippines.  The Ever Transport III was off Dumaguete when it was battered by high winds and large waves from tropical storm “Sendong”.  The vessel dropped anchor waiting until the vessel could safely dock, but the anchors failed to hold and the Ever Transport III went aground.   Rescuers were able to secure a rope to the vessel and bring all 32 passengers and crew safely ashore.   The Ever Transport III later sank.   No reports of injuries.  No vessel details were reported.
