The 611 dwt freighter B&E Uno sank in the Mactan Channel off Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines.   The B&E Uno had struck bottom while attempting  to dock at Canjulao.    The grounding ripped a hole in the vessel’s hull causing significant water ingress.   The master of the vessel attempted to beach the vessel as the B&E Uno’s  engine room quickly flooded and developed a list to port.   Some 200 meters from shore, the B&E Uno capsized and sank.  All the 18 crew on board were able to swim ashore.    Reports state there was an oil sheen in the water.   The freighter was loaded with 23,000 bags of cement, 1,000 liters of oil and 100 liters of lube oil when it sank.  Authorities state that the cause of the initial grounding was due to a navigational error.   An oil boom has been placed around the vessel to contain any further pollution released.
