Wilson Newport

Wilson Newport

The 123 meter long, 8321 dwt freighter Wilson Newport went aground in Adriatic Sea near Gios Georgios, Greece.  The vessel struck the island and was hard aground, but no reports of water ingress or pollution released.   No injuries to the 10 crew on board.  Authorities have dispatched an anti-pollution vesel to the scene.   A tug was also standing by in the area.  The freighter was en route to Antwerp from Gemlik, Turkey.

Ming Yang

Ming Yang

The 12703 gt reefer Ming Yang caught fire near Okinawa, Japan.  The vessel had suffered an explosion from the main engine resulting starting the fire.   The crew were forced to seek shelter in the bow section as the stern became engulf in thick smoke.  Some 21 crew were able to escape into a life raft while the remaining 43 awaited on deck.   The Japan Coast Guard responded sending patrol vessels and aircraft to the scene.   All the crew were safely rescued with three suffering minor injuries.  Reports state the vessel was en route to China from South America.  The owners of Ming Yang have arranged salvage of the vessel.

BG Stone

The 40 meter long, 610 dwt dredger BG Stone capsized near Torreso Strand, Kattegat, Denmark.   The dredger suffered a cargo shift causing the BG Stone to capsize onto its port side.  The crew of four on board were able to abandon ship to the liferaft.  The men were later rescued by a Danish rescue helicopter.  No reports of injuries.  The dredger remained partially above water as it sank in shallow water.   Authorities report some oil pollution has been released into the water.  The BG Stone was later raised and towed to Fayard where authorities will conduct an investigation into the incident.
