The 61 foot long fishing vessel Genesis A went ashore off Leadbetter PointWashington.   The crab boat was proceeding along Long Beach Peninsula when the helmsman fell asleep at the wheel.   The Genesis A struck a sand bar just off the beach.   The vessel’s hull remained intact and no pollution was released.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard requesting assistance.  The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and a 47-foot motor lifeboat to the scene.  The helicopter was able to hoist and safely land the four crew off the Genesis A.   No reports of injuries.  Reports state that 1,200 gallons of fuel and any hazardous materials on board the Genesis A will be removed before the vessel will be refloated.  The Coast Guard have launched an investigation into the incident.
