Terra Nova
The 65 foot long fishing vessel Terra Nova sank a few miles off Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The two crew on board the Terra Nova had contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel had suffered water ingress. The forward section had six feet of water and the Terra Nova’s pumps were unable to keep up with the flooding. The crew dropped the vessel’s anchor and donned survival suits before abandoning ship. A Coast Guard helicopter located the men in the water. One crewman was rescued by the Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat while the other was rescued by the harbormaster boat from Rockport. Both men were taken to hospital.
