The 23 meter long passenger ferry Adventure ran aground near Battery Island, North Carolina.  The ferry was on its regular run between Southport and Bald Head with 31 passengers when it struck a sandbar.  Some 13 passengers were injured with 3 suffering moderate to severe injuries.  The vessel requested assistance with the 47-foot motor life boat and 25 foot response boat from the Oak Island Coast Guard Station responding.  The Coast Guard boats were able to transfer the injured passengers off the ferry and transport them to the nearby marina.  The remaining passengers were taken ashore with the assistance of other rescue vessels and the Bald Head Island Ferry Ranger.  No reports of pollution released.  A tug was requested to help refloat the Advernture.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
