Meggen
The 82 meter long self-propelled barge Meggen released pollution into the Weser-Datteln Canal while berthed at Datteln, Germany. The crew of the Meggen made a mistake pumping water. Instead of pumping water into the fresh water tank, it was pumped into a cooling system causing it to overflow. The overflow went into a fuel tank causing oil to be released out into the canal. Local fire brigade responded to the scene and placed booms around the vessel to contain the pollution. No reports of injuries or damage. Authorities reported that clean-up operations had started.
