On August 4, the 2649 dwt fishing vessel Guamblin sank in the Bay of Coquimbo off Coquimbo, Chile. The Guamblin had been anchored in the bay since 2014 in unseaworthy condition when oil sheen was spotted around the vessel.  Authorities deployed booms to contain the pollution.  An inspection found the Guamblin suffering water ingress and in danger of sinking.  Authorities determined the best action was to tow the derlict trawler out to sea, but the Guamblin capsized and sank while under tow.  No reports of injuries.
