On August 21, the 138 meter long, 12,649 dwt cargo vessel SE Pacifica and the 169 meter long, 38,850 dwt tanker King Emerald collided in the North Sea at the anchorage off Nieuwpoort, Belgium. Both vessels were anchored when the King Emerald anchor began to drag and the tanker started to drift. The King Emerald continued drifting until it struck into the starboard stern section of the SE Pacifica. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The SE Pacifica sustained significant damage to its superstructure while the bow of King Emerald suffered only minor dents and scrapes. Reports state the SE Pacifica was later taken under tow to Vissingen for repairs while the King Emerald proceeded to Antwerp.
