Two Mikes
The 48 foot fishing vessel Two Mikes ran aground near to the north jetty at Newport, Oregon. The fishing vessel was attempting to enter the mouth of the Yaquina Bay when it stranded on the rocks next to the jetty. One crewman jumped from the Two Mikes onto the jetty while the other jumped, but landed into the water. Both crewmen reached shore where they were treated for minor injuries. Waves pounded the Two Mikes against the jetty until the vessel partially submerged. An oil sheen formed around the vessel as diesel fuel leaked from the tanks. The fishing vessel had some 2000 gallons of fuel on board at the time. A boom was placed around the vessel to contain any pollution released. Reports state the vessel’s radar had been malfunctioning at the time of the incident. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.
