On December 5, the 88 meter long, 3797 dwt cargo vessel Carolin G allided with some pilings in the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel, Germany.  The Carolin G had departed from a nearby quay in Brunsbüttel heading towards the north embankment when it suffered a power blackout after its main engine failed. The crew attempted to slow down the vessel by an emergency anchor, but it was not enough to stop the bow striking the pilings. The Carolin G sustained some dents while two pilings were destroyed. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Carolin G was allowed to proceed a few days later on its voyage to Swinoujscie.
