Ayson
The fishing vessel Ayson sank in the Foveaux Strait, New Zealand. The trawler was returning to port when it struck rocks off Stirling Point due to a navigation mistake. The hull was holed and quickly began to fill with water. The three crew on board activated a locator beacon before abandoning ship into a liferaft. The Bluff Coastguard and the South Port NZ boat both responded to the scene. All three men were rescued. No reports of injuries. The Ayson rests under 10 meter of water with a full load of fish. Divers were dispatched to help close vents and prevent fuel from being released.
