The 59 foot long fishing vessel Western Venture caught fire and sank in the Bering Sea off Adak, Alaska.  The fire started in the vessel’s bow and quickly consumed the entire vessel.  The five crew on board activated the vessel’s EPIRB before escaping into the life raft.  The nearby fishing vessel Aleutian Beauty was first on scene and rescued all five crewmen.  No injuries were reported.  The Coast Guard reported that an oil sheen was reported where the Western Venture sank. The Western Venture had some 2000 gallons of diesel and other oil on board at the time.
